Project Overview

The VGH Surgical Suite Renewal Project is a major, multi-phase project, including new operating rooms (OR), perioperative care unit (PCU) bays, and supporting spaces within Jim Pattison Pavilion, levels 2 and 3 (JP2 and JP3).

With Phase 1 complete, the Phase 2 plan is the replacement, upgrade, and expansion of the current obsolete perioperative suite and related spaces on JP2 resulting in 14 new operating rooms, 39-bay PCU, and supporting spaces. When completed, the perioperative suite will have an increased surgical capacity of 43% overall.

Along with Phase 2, and critical to the modernization of the VGH site, are the completion of significant infrastructure projects including upgrades to the standby power plant, chiller plant, heat recovery units, medical device reprocessing department, medical gas system, and isolation of the mechanical system supporting the intensive care unit—all of which are essential infrastructure upgrades that are required before the perioperative suite can be fully operationalized in 2028.
