Project Overview
MAKE Projects was selected by Fraser Health Authority to lead the delivery of a complex renovation and expansion project at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) focused on Interventional Cardiology (IC) and Interventional Radiology (IR) services. This multi-phase healthcare redevelopment is being delivered within an active hospital environment and involves intricate coordination with multiple Fraser Health departments, including Facilities Management and the P3 Operations Division.
The project scope includes the creation of a new, integrated IR/IC department located on the third floor of the hospital’s Critical Care Tower (CCT), encompassing approximately 1,572 square meters of interior renovations. Before this major redevelopment, MAKE is managing an extensive series of enabling works, consisting of five departmental relocations and two significant renovation packages required to vacate the target space within the CCT. These enabling works are critical path activities that ensure continuity of hospital operations while unlocking space for the primary scope.
The project is being delivered under a hybrid procurement model. Enabling works are being tendered through Fraser Health’s pre-qualified vendor pool. At the same time, renovations within the CCT are being executed via the P3-maintained infrastructure, utilizing retained trades and coordinated through the P3 Operations Division.
Primary Services
MAKE’s responsibilities include full project leadership from initiation through completion—ensuring integration of all stakeholders, management of the design team led by Diamond Schmitt Architects, oversight of construction management procurement, and rigorous cost and schedule control. This project demonstrates MAKE’s depth of expertise in delivering technically complex healthcare renovations within operational facilities, coordinating multi-phased workstreams, managing procurement across multiple contracting structures, and driving results on accelerated schedules.
