Enhancing Technology for Improved Clinical Operations
Project Overview
Darren Bryson was the Principal-In-Charge for the design of this new 153-bed hospital with an overall gross area of 39,826 sq metres (428,700 sf). This project was delivered under a P3 format and achieved a LEED Gold level of sustainability. Darren provided leadership on behalf of the design firm responsible for the clinical planning, architecture, engineering and sustainability consulting services to the Design-Builder.
A unique challenge on this project was integrating the latest in technology to leverage ICT to improve clinical operational and management efficiency within these two new hospitals while also improving access to healthcare and patient experience. For example, radio frequency identification allowed for higher levels of tracking and monitoring for patients, staff and even critical mobile equipment. It is also used to monitor patients with dementia and infant abduction monitoring. In each situation, the design team worked with IT staff, clinicians, specialty vendors, architects, and engineers to help evolve an integrated digital information platform and understand the new operational workflows that they would entail.
